Gooseneck & Equipment Trailers in Lafayette

What Lafayette Buyers Should Know Before They Buy

Gooseneck buyers in Lafayette are the equipment side of town: dirt-work and site-prep crews hauling skid steers and mini-excavators to the new subdivisions in Youngsville, oilfield hot-shot drivers running I-10 and I-49 with a 30 ft flatbed, and the cattle and hay operations north of Carencro that need a deck-over for round bales. Our lot is on the Thruway, so you can drop a machine on the deck and check the ramp angle before it is yours.

When the load gets serious, the hitch moves to the bed. A gooseneck puts the trailer's tongue weight over your truck's rear axle instead of hanging it off the bumper, which is why a gooseneck tows straighter, backs tighter and hauls more than a bumper-pull of the same length. It is the right tool for skid steers, tractors, mini-excavators, round bales, cars, and anything that pushes past about ten thousand pounds of payload.

The common classes: a 14K tandem gooseneck for a compact tractor or skid steer, a 20K to 22K with two 10,000 lb axles for a full-size excavator or a loaded flatbed, and 25K and up for the heavy equipment haulers. Deck lengths run 20 to 40 ft; dovetails and flip-over ramps make loading a machine safe, and a hydraulic dovetail is worth it if you load every day. Your truck matters more here than anywhere else: a gooseneck needs a three-quarter- or one-ton pickup with a bed hitch, and a one-ton dually for the heavy classes. Not sure? Run our free towing check or call and read us your door sticker.

Why Lafayette Buys Gooseneck & Equipment Trailers From Ragin

Lafayette is the hub of Acadiana and the crossroads of I-10, I-49 and US-90, which is why so many trailers in this town earn a living: oilfield-service crews running tool trailers out of the yards along the Thruway and Ambassador Caffery, contractors and landscapers working the new subdivisions south of town, and families hauling side-by-sides to the camp or a boiler to the Cajun Field tailgate. Festival International and Festivals Acadiens keep a whole fleet of food trailers busy every spring and fall. Our lot is at 2601 SE Evangeline Thruway, about five minutes from downtown, the Oil Center or the University; hours are Mon-Fri 8-5 and Saturday 8-12.

Questions

Gooseneck & Equipment Trailer FAQ for Lafayette Buyers

Gooseneck or bumper pull for equipment?

Over about 10,000 lb of load, a gooseneck tows straighter, turns tighter, and puts the weight over your axle instead of behind it. If your truck has the bed hitch, the gooseneck is the better tool. Under that, a bumper-pull equipment trailer with a dovetail and ramps does the job and works with any truck that has a receiver.

What truck do I need for a gooseneck?

A three-quarter-ton with a gooseneck ball in the bed handles the 14K class. The 20K to 25K equipment haulers want a one-ton, and a one-ton dually once you are loading a full-size excavator. Read the GCWR on your door sticker and remember the gooseneck itself puts 15 to 25 percent of the loaded weight on your truck. Call 337-504-3820 with the sticker numbers and we will match the trailer to the truck.

What GVWR do I need: 14K, 20K or 25K?

Add the trailer's empty weight to the heaviest machine you will haul. A 14K gooseneck carries roughly 9,500 lb of payload, enough for most skid steers and compact tractors. A 20K to 22K handles a 12,000 to 15,000 lb excavator or a loaded car-hauler deck. Past that you are in 25K territory with 12,000 lb axles.

Hydraulic dovetail or flip-over ramps?

Flip-over (max) ramps are the standard and cost less: solid, simple, nothing to leak. A hydraulic dovetail drops the whole tail to the ground at the push of a button, which is worth it if you load low-clearance equipment or load and unload several times a day.

Do you offer financing or rent-to-own on goosenecks?

Yes. Financing & rent-to-own available on every gooseneck and equipment trailer we sell, including commercial and fleet accounts: bank financing, fast decisions through our lender network, and rent-to-own programs. Call 337-504-3820 or text 337-279-2620 and we will tell you which program fits.

Can I hook my truck to a gooseneck on the Lafayette lot?

Yes. Bring the truck with the bed hitch to 2601 SE Evangeline Thruway and we will drop the trailer on your ball, check the pin height and ride level, and walk the ramps and dovetail with you. If your truck is not set up yet, tell us the make and year and we will tell you what hitch it needs.

Do you deliver gooseneck & equipment trailers to Lafayette?

Yes, and it is free. Every trailer we sell delivers free within 50 miles of our Lafayette lot, which covers all of Lafayette Parish and most of Acadiana. Usually the same or next business day; or hook up at the lot and tow it home today.
